#MyDubai

Today we all live in a new and very interesting world where social networks are changing our communication style and bringing them closer to each other - a huge world begins to seem small and accessible to everyone.

The crown prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Muhammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum decided to take advantage of the obvious advantages of social networks and in January 2014 launched the project #MyDubai. Its purpose is to encourage all residents, tourists and guests to create and tell the history of the city themselves. To do this, just combine your photos and videos of Dubai, posted on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, with the hashtag #MyDubai.

As a result, a real electronic museum should appear - a whole year of the city’s life in its everyday trifles, memorable moments and everyday joys. They answered the call of the Crown Prince with great eagerness - at present, more than 500,000 photos and videos have already been uploaded to the network!

Dubai's Department of Tourism and Commercial Marketing plans to use this initiative to advertise the city in the Gulf countries and beyond. And what could be better advertising than the unique stories of completely different people? The very idea of the project appeared after the announcement of the city as the venue for the global exhibition "Expo 2020". Then streams of photos and videos literally poured into the network - new pictures were laid out every minute. Frames with familiar views of skyscrapers and islands in the form of palm trees interspersed with family shots, photographs of sporting events and desert safaris. This led to the idea of combining the pictures and making a digital map.

Each week, the jury selects one of the most successful photographs, which is broadcast all day on a huge screen located on the building of the Bourges Al Arab Hotel. We are pleased to inform you that one of the winning photographs (you see it on this page), which was broadcast on the famous white sail, belongs to Yakub Islamov, a freelance photographer for the Russian Emirates magazine, whose photographs can often be found on the pages of our magazine.

The Crown Prince of Dubai, a big fan of social networks and, in particular, Instagram, tweeted: “We want to use #MyDubai to show the world the lives of ordinary people in the city, tell their stories and share the invaluable moments of their days.” A digital chronicle of the city is being written right now, at this very moment. So if you are in Dubai, your story is his story.
