Advisor to Donald Trump accused Iran of "attack" on tankers off the coast of the UAE

John Bolton blamed Iran for "acts of sabotage" off the coast of the United Arab Emirates.

On May 29, 2019, US National Security Advisor John Bolton, who is on an official visit to the UAE, said that Iran was involved in “acts of sabotage” in relation to oil loading vessels of a number of states off the coast of the emirate of Fujairah.

Recall that the incident, which caused damage to four tankers, occurred in the territorial waters of the United Arab Emirates earlier this month.

"Obviously, Iran is behind the acts of sabotage in Fujairah. Who do you think will do this?" - John Bolton said at a briefing at the US Embassy in the UAE.

According to him, the cause of damage to ships became sea mines.

"We in Washington have information on who did this," he said.

John Bolton arrived in Abu Dhabi on the eve to negotiate amid growing tensions with Iran. He said the US is in dialogue with its allies in the Persian Gulf about a threat from Iran.

On Thursday and Friday, regional summits are planned in Mecca on the issue of further isolation of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Investigation of the incident near the port of Fujairah is ongoing.
