In December, a meteor shower will pass over the UAE

On the night of December 14 to 15, residents of the UAE will be able to contemplate meteor shower.

Dubai, UAE. On the night of December 14 to 15, residents of the United Arab Emirates will be able to contemplate one of the most beautiful starfalls - the Geminida meteor shower. With the naked eye it will be possible to observe a fall of up to 100 meteors per hour.

Geminids are one of the most powerful meteor showers. It was opened at the end of the XIX century. In 2011, it burst up to 200 meteors per hour, which is 2 times more than the traditional August Perseid stream. Often there are bright meteors and fireballs. The source of the flow is the asteroid Phaeton. The stream does not fly toward the Earth, but catches up with it, because the speed of meteors is low (about 35 km / s).

The Dubai astronomical group will set up a starfall observation point away from the city, in the middle of the Al Qudra desert. The head of the center, Hassan Al Hajiri, recommends that everyone who wants to dress in comfortable clothes according to the weather, since you will have to spend several hours outdoors at night. All camp guests will be able to use telescopes to observe celestial bodies, as well as listen to lectures on astronomy.
