UAE and NASA conclude an agreement

The UAE Space Agency has signed an agreement with NASA on cooperation in the field of space flights.

On July 18, the head of the UAE Space Agency, Dr. Muhammad Al Ahbabi, and NASA head Jim Brydenstein signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of space flights.

This event took place less than a month after the UAE Space Center named after Mohammed bin Rashid signed an agreement with Roscosmos to send the first astronaut from the UAE to space aboard the Soyuz rocket in April 2019. A Russian commander and an American engineer will also take part in the flight to the International Space Station.

“This morning I met with the head of the UAE Space Agency, Dr. Mohammed Al Ahbabi. We signed a joint letter of intent to cooperate in the field of space flights. I look forward to working with Dr. Al Ahbabi in the field of space exploration,” Mr. Bidenstein shared on Twitter. NASA's new director for the Trump administration.

On July 18, the UAE Space Agency tweeted: “The UAE Space Agency, represented by Director General Dr. Al Ahbabi, signed a letter of intent with NASA, represented by Mr. Brydenstein. This agreement is based on the understanding reached in the field of joint work in the field of manned space flights."

Previously, NASA and the UAE Space Agency have already held several meetings in order to strengthen partnerships. Last year, an agreement was signed between the two agencies, under which they agreed to collaborate in research in the field of aeronautics, as well as to use air and outer space for peaceful purposes. In 2016, an agreement was signed on cooperation in the study of Mars. However, the new agreement is the first relating to manned spaceflight.

Recall that this year the first team of four cosmonauts will be formed in the UAE, one of which will go to the International Space Station in April and become the first UAE citizen to conquer space.
