Sharjah University students staged a picture of Raphael

Students at the American University of Sharjah staged a masterpiece of world painting.

A group of students at the American University of Sharjah staged one of the most famous works of Renaissance art - Raphael's mural "School of Athens".

The staging was attended by more than 60 students, faculty and staff of the university. All the "actors" have undergone thorough preparation, because to recreate a work of one of the geniuses of world painting is not an easy task.

The original fresco is located in the stella della Senyatura of the Vatican Palace. The fresco depicts the greatest politicians, philosophers, poets, mathematicians, astronomers, doctors and architects: Alexander the Great, Socrates, Aristotle, Leonardo da Vinci, Euclid and others.

Each participant in the production was carefully selected a suit corresponding to the one depicted in the fresco, students rehearsed for a long time the poses of the people they were to play.

The united premises of the university campus became the background for work, and the atrium of the library served as an arch. Students did an excellent job, focusing on the smallest details of the mural.

First, the production was photographed from different points, then the sequence of images was connected with the background on the computer.

As Dr. Martin Giesen, professor of art history at Sharjah University, notes, the production is important in addition to the visual component, as it reflects the diversity of cultures and religions in the institution.
