The first flight of flydubai landed in Thessaloniki.
Dubai-based flydubai made its first flight to Thessaloniki, becoming the first airline from the UAE to offer direct flights from Dubai. A flight departing from Terminal 2 of Dubai International Airport landed today at the Macedonia International Airport in Thessaloniki and was solemnly greeted by a salute of water cannons.
On board was a delegation led by Jeyhun Effendi, senior vice president of commercial operations at flydubai. Upon arrival in Thessaloniki, the delegation was met by the Chargé d'Affaires of the UAE Embassy in Greece Khaled Alqaydi and Executive Director of Business Development Fraport Greece George Vilos.
Commenting on the launch of flights to Thessaloniki during a press conference, Jeyhun Effendi said: “As the first airline to offer direct flights from Dubai to Thessaloniki, we are pleased that this route opens up new opportunities for strengthening trade and tourist ties between the UAE and Greece. As more 70% of all our routes previously did not have direct flights with the UAE or were not served by a national carrier from the UAE, we remain true to our goal - to create free trade and tourism flows and develop direct flights with the UAE " .
Under the flydubai agreement with Emirates, flights on this route will be code-sharing, which will allow passengers of both airlines to access more connections from Dubai, numbering hundreds of countries around the world.
Thierry Aucoc, Emirates Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations, said: “Our partnership with flydubai allows passengers from Thessaloniki and its suburbs to easily travel anywhere in the world with the Emirates route network, namely Australia’s popular locals , Thailand and China. We also expect the new route to increase the number of visitors to the region from important international markets such as Melbourne and Sydney, as well as China and Japan. "
When booking a code-share flight, Emirates passengers will receive free meals and permission to carry checked baggage in business and economy classes on flights operated by flydubai.
