More than 10 thousand taxis in Dubai are equipped with CCTV cameras

The Dubai Traffic and Transport Authority plans to install CCTV cameras in more than 10 thousand taxis by the end of 2018.

The Dubai Traffic and Transportation Authority (RTA) has begun installing CCTV cameras in taxis of the Department of Public Transport to improve passenger safety. Through these cameras, the RTA intends to monitor the behavior of taxi drivers and check the degree of their compliance with professional driving standards and moral standards.

“Surveillance cameras were installed in approximately 6,500 taxis from a total fleet of 10,221 cars. The remaining taxis will be equipped with video cameras by the end of this year,” said Adele Shakri, director of transport systems at the Department of Public Transport.

“The goal of the system is to ensure that taxi drivers meet professional standards and moral standards. This step also motivates drivers to provide their customers with high-quality services. Video recorded on cameras will be watched when complaints about trips by taxi are received - this will improve the quality of service, to customers, ”added Mr. Chakri.

"This measure resonates with the strategic goal of the RTA" Happy People "and echoes the strategy of the UAE government" Smart City ".

“RTA always strives to ensure the comfort and safety of taxi passengers in Dubai using high-tech devices and technologies. Satisfied customers are the top management priority,” said the Director of Transport Systems at the Department of Public Transport.
