On Thursday morning, 800 people were evacuated from a school in Ras al-Khaimah due to the spread of caustic fumes through the school ventilation channels.
According to the authorities of the emirate, they called from the school and reported a pungent odor from the ventilation shaft.
As a result of the incident, more than 800 students and staff who were in the Al-Riyadh school for girls in the Al Dhait region were affected.
All victims received medical assistance. In total, 22 students were admitted to the hospital, 5 of whom lost consciousness, and 17 were in shock.
A fire brigade went to the scene, all 730 students and 70 employees were immediately evacuated from the school.
Ras al-Khaimah police, ambulance services and other government agencies took part in organizing the evacuation.
An investigation into the causes of the pungent odor is underway, but Ras al-Khaimah Civil Defense Department officials said the pungent odor was most likely caused by a short circuit.
