Access for children and seniors by public transport in Abu Dhabi has become cheaper

Abu Dhabi introduced new rules and incentives for residents using public transportation.

Children 10 years of age and younger, older people 55 years of age and older and people with special needs were given a 50 percent discount on Abu Dhabi public transport.

In addition, children under the age of 12 are not allowed to travel without an accompanying adult.

Sheikh Isab bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, chairman of the transport department, introduced the new rules in the executive decree of Decree No. 30 of 2017.

Under the new rules, passengers are not allowed to eat, drink, chew gum, spit, or use any tobacco products in public transport.

It is also strongly recommended that you do not disturb other passengers or use vocabulary that may offend other people.

In addition, a ban has been imposed on the transport of items that could harm public transport, such as sharp instruments, flammable substances and alcohol. Bicycles are also not allowed on public transport.

Passengers are also asked not to distract bus drivers.

The stop button should only be pressed if necessary.

Animals, except guide dogs, are not allowed in public transport.

Baggage, if any, must be carried properly and not cause inconvenience to other passengers.

Violators face fines from 200 to 2 thousand dirhams ($ 54 - $ 540). For serious offenses, passengers will be referred to the police.

All passengers are strongly advised to abide by the new rules in order to avoid punishment.
