Dubai Unified Patient Database Appears in Dubai Public Health Facilities

Case histories and other personal data of patients of Dubai state medical institutions will soon be available in electronic form thanks to the introduction of a new unified system of electronic medical data. According to the representative of the Dubai Health Authority, thanks to the new system, medical history, the results of tests, diagnostics, prescriptions, as well as x-ray images of the patient, will be available at any time in any of the state medical institutions in Dubai. This will allow doctors to have complete information and make decisions based on a real picture of the patient’s health status.

Also, the new system will make it possible to receive "health cards" via the Internet, which will save applicants from the need to visit the hospital in person. The electronic medical data system (EMR) was introduced to the ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, at the opening of the Arab Health Congress 2010, which was held in Dubai in late January.

The Dubai Health Department plans to link all the emirate’s health facilities with a single system by the end of 2012.
